iTunes 7.6 Launching Solution(3) :: 2008/02/21 05:20This Solution is designed for Windows XP SP2 **Caution: In order to properly fix iTunes 7.6 launching problem, It is important that you complete solution 1 & 2** If you have completed solution 1 & 2 but your iTunes 7.6 still doesn't launch, please continue on this procedure. If you have not completed solution 1 & 2, please click below to begin solution 1. Solution 3 alone may not fix iTunes 7.6 launching problem. iTunes 7.6 Launching Solution(3) The Symptom a. New installation of iTunes 7.6 After installing the iTunes 7.6 for Windows XP with service pack2, it doesn't start. It shows the hourglass for few seconds then disappears. Nothing happens. If you look in the Task Manager, iTunes.exe and other iTunes- related programs, such as iTunesHelper.exe and iPodService.exe..etc., show they are running. b. Upgrading from previous version of iTunes (7.4 or 7.5..etc) An error message showing: could not find scarddlg.dll try to install again. Once again, iTunes doesn't start. The Diagnosis Check You need to make sure that your Windows XP has 'Smart Card Service' installed. It should be installed by default. However, as for me, it somehow got vanished and yours might be too. To check if you have Smart Card Service installed, Start -> Run -> msconfig Click the tab 'Services' and look for 'Smart Card' or 'Smart Card Services' in the list. If you can't find the service in the list then it has probably been removed from your system somehow and you need to reinstall it manually by following [Instruction on how to install Smart Card Service to Windows XP with Service Pack2] below. If 'Smart Card' is in the list then try reinstalling the service by doing the following: Start -> Run -> cmd At the command promt , type scardsvr reinstall the command window will pop up for few seconds then disappear. Or make sure the Smart Card Service startup is set to Automatic by doing: Start -> Run -> services.msc At the Service window, look for Smart Card then highlight by click on it. Download this file to re-install Smart Card Service to your Windows XP 3. Read the included readme.txt 4. Run install.bat 5. Uncheck Smart Card Service and press Next to remove the files and registry entries 6.
