This Solution is designed for Windows XP SP2

**Caution: In order to properly fix iTunes 7.6 launching problem,
It is important that you complete solution 1 & 2**

If you have completed solution 1 & 2 but your iTunes 7.6
still doesn't launch, please continue on this procedure.

If you have not completed solution 1 & 2, please click
below to begin solution 1.  Solution 3 alone may not fix
iTunes 7.6 launching problem.

iTunes 7.6 Launching Solution(3)

The Symptom

a. New installation of iTunes 7.6

After installing the iTunes 7.6 for Windows XP with service pack2,
it doesn't start.  It shows the hourglass for few seconds then
disappears.  Nothing happens.

If you look in the Task Manager, iTunes.exe and other iTunes-
related programs, such as iTunesHelper.exe and
iPodService.exe..etc., show they are running.

b. Upgrading from previous version of iTunes (7.4 or 7.5..etc)

An error message showing: could not find scarddlg.dll try to
install again. Once again, iTunes doesn't start.

The Diagnosis Check

You need to make sure that your Windows XP has
'Smart Card Service' installed. It should be installed by default.
However, as for me, it somehow got vanished and yours
might be too.

To check if you have Smart Card Service installed,

Start -> Run -> msconfig

Click the tab 'Services' and look for 'Smart Card' or
'Smart Card Services' in the list.

If you can't find the service in the list then it has probably been
removed from your system somehow and you need to reinstall it
manually by following
[Instruction on how to install
Smart Card Service to Windows XP with Service Pack2]
below.

If 'Smart Card' is in the list then try reinstalling the service
by doing the following:

Start -> Run -> cmd

At the command promt , type

scardsvr reinstall

the command window will pop up for few seconds then disappear.

Or make sure the Smart Card Service startup is set to Automatic
by doing:

Start -> Run -> services.msc

At the Service window, look for Smart Card then highlight by
click on it.

Then,  go to Actions menu -> Property -> Startup type: Automatic

files and registry entries

6. Run the install.bat again, the same window will be shown,

7. Perform a system restart, after checking the service manager
(by running services.msc) and making sure the Smart card service startup is set to
Automatic

Ex: Start -> Run -> services.msc

At the Service window, look for Smart Card then highlight
by click on it.

Then,  go to Actions menu -> Property -> Startup type: Automatic
